When Structure Meets Storytelling Behind the Scenes

Recently, I had the opportunity to support Lori Theriault during the filming of the welcome video for SEEDS, her confidence-building program for homeschooled middle school students, ages 9-13.

SEEDS helps students build confidence, communication skills, emotional awareness, and real-life tools they can carry with them as they grow.

During the creation of SEEDS, there was a lot of information gathered, organized, and shaped into clear messaging. The goal was to make sure families could quickly understand what SEEDS is, who it helps, and why it matters.

By the time we got to filming the welcome video, my role was very much behind the scenes.

I was listening carefully to the key messages. I wanted to make sure the important words, ideas, and details made it into the video, so families could clearly understand the heart of the program.

At the same time, Melvin Cabrera, the videographer, brought his own creative flow to the process. He asked questions that allowed Lori’s story and personality to come through naturally.

That combination of structure and spontaneity is what made the video feel so special.

There was a plan, but there was also room for the story to breathe. And honestly, that is where the magic happened.

I loved being part of that process because I enjoy supporting people behind the scenes, especially when they are the ones stepping into the spotlight.

Here are three operations takeaways from this experience:

1. Clear messaging makes everything easier.

Before you create a video, website, flyer, or social media post, you need to know what you are trying to say. When your message is clear, the rest of the process becomes more focused.

2. Structure does not have to feel stiff.

A good plan gives you direction, but it should not remove personality. Structure helps you stay on track, while still leaving room for real conversation and connection.

3. Behind-the-scenes support matters.

When someone is presenting, filming, launching, or leading, they need support around them. Someone has to keep an eye on the details, the flow, the message, and the next step.

That is a big part of operations work.

It is not always the most visible part of a business, but it helps everything feel smoother, clearer, and more intentional.

And when the right pieces come together, the final result does not just look good, it feels aligned.
