When three partners decided to open a Homemaker and Companion Services agency in Florida, they reached out for help to turn their idea into a compliant, organized operation.
Their vision was clear: to provide nonmedical home support and companionship to older adults. The registration process with the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) can feel overwhelming, so they asked me to lead the way as their operations manager.
During the registration process, I guided them step by step through the requirements for the AHCA Homemaker and Companion Services Provider application, ensuring everything was accurate and aligned with Florida regulations.
We began by confirming that the agency’s services met AHCA’s definition of homemaker and companion care, which includes tasks such as light housekeeping, meal preparation, and running errands. I reviewed the eligibility and business structure requirements and confirmed that the agency’s name and operations complied with state guidelines.
I completed the main Health Care Licensing Application (Form 3110-1003) and the Addendum (Form 3110-1024), ensuring every section, from ownership information to the service area and contact details, was completed and consistent across both forms.
Using the AHCA checklist, I gathered the required information for the three members, the administrator, and the financial officer, including identification, contact details, and attestations of compliance. Each section had to match exactly with what was listed in the Division of Corporations records.
I scheduled and coordinated all Level 2 fingerprint background checks through authorized LiveScan providers for the three owners and key staff. Once completed, I collected and confirmed the documentation to ensure every screening was properly logged and ready for AHCA review.
The application is now under AHCA review. The agency’s three founders are positioned to begin offering homemaker and companion services as soon as the registration is approved, with every compliance piece already in place. This experience reaffirmed how much clarity and organization can simplify complex state processes and help new business owners step confidently into their next chapter.
