Busy vs. Productive

It’s the beginning of a new week. What are the things that you want to accomplish by the end of the week?

While thinking of your goals, use this tie to identify what’s keeping you busy vs productive.

Ask the following questions to determine if you are keeping yourself busy:

  • Is what I’m doing right now necessary? If you are doing something out of habit and it’s not necessary, get rid of it.
  • Do I need to go through emails ten times a day? Can I do it only twice or three times a day? You could be wasting precious time responding to or reading unimportant emails on a daily basis. At the end of the week, that time adds up!
  • Before I move on to another task, did I complete the last one that I was working on before? You don’t want to touch things twice if you don’t have to.

Ask the following questions to determine if you are being productive:

  • What are my two or three priority projects for the day? As long as you get those projects done, you are being productive. Everything else can wait.
  • Did you make progress from the day before? Little progress also counts.
  • Did you spend any time during the day focusing on how to move your business forward?
