These photos mark the moment we finally said goodbye to winter here in Connecticut. At the beginning of March, the snow melted, the sun stayed out a little longer, and it felt like everyone collectively took a deep breath. After months of cold and short days, we were ready to step outside again.
February can be a tough month.
By that point in winter, many of us feel tired of the cold and the quiet rhythm of hibernating. We want to walk outside without layers, feel the sun on our face, and simply be out and about again.
This February also felt especially intense for me on the business side. In the operations management world, the first quarter of the year is very active. Many business owners start the year motivated to organize their systems, launch new projects, or move ideas that have been sitting on the shelf.
That energy is exciting, and it also means February can become very busy, sometimes even a little hectic.
Seeing the snow melt this week reminded me of something simple but powerful. Everything comes in seasons.
Some seasons feel heavier than others. Some are full of momentum and activity. Others feel quieter or slower. Both are important.
One of the most helpful things we can do in business is recognize our seasons. When we know when our busy periods tend to happen, we can prepare for them. We can plan projects, organize our time, and make space for the work ahead.
The same goes for slower seasons. Those moments can be the perfect time to focus on networking, marketing, improving systems, or working on the parts of the business that are easy to postpone when things are busy.
Personally, my ideal plan every year is to take a short break from the Connecticut winter and travel somewhere warm. Early February would probably be the perfect time. This year I was simply too busy to make it happen, but the reminder is there for next year.
Planning around the seasons, both in life and in business, helps everything feel a little more manageable.
And just like winter eventually gives way to spring, the busy and challenging moments eventually pass too.
For now, I am simply happy to welcome the longer days, the warmer air, and the feeling that spring is finally here.
