#7 - Skills that Virtual Assistants MUST have.

One of the reasons why I decided to become a Virtual Assistant was because of my strong organizational skills. But being organized is not the only skill that a successful VA needs to have.

In this article, I’ll share with you some of the must-have skills that every VA needs.

Each client and each assignment is different. Therefore, to be a great VA, you need to have a set of unique skills that are going to support you in different situations. Here are some of the main ones:

1. Excellent communication – Get to know your client and be a good listener. Ask your client how and how often they want to communicate. That way, you show up for them when they need it.

2. Self-discipline – Nobody is looking over our shoulders, literally. So we have to make sure that we manage our own calendars effectively in order to create a structure for ourselves, prioritize assignments, and meet deadlines.

3. Problem-solving – Our days are not always going to be the same, especially if we are working on multiple projects for different people. We have to be creative problem solvers and stay on top of our game to move things along. Where there is a problem, there is a solution and an opportunity for learning!

4. Quick Thinking and effective decision-making – Decisions are part of our daily work. For those of us that own our Virtual Assistance business, we have to make decisions as business owners and on behalf of our clients, so quick thinking and effective decision-making are a must.

5. Batching – Resisting the temptation to go back and forth tasks so you don’t forget stuff is hard, but it’s necessary. To use time efficiently, it’s important to work on a certain project or multiple tasks for one client in one sitting. If distractions come your way, ignore them until it’s time to pay attention to them. Manage your time effectively without feeling exhausted at the end of your workday!

Let's get moving!

I’m not a huge fan of going to the gym (I know, I know!), but I’m aware of the importance of working out. Two activities that help me stay in shape are long power walks and dancing. I LOVE dancing!
So I finally decided to join a dance/aerobics class. Besides making me feel good, I feel like movement allows me to release any blockages in my body. It also allows me to express emotion without words. To me, it feels therapeutic!
